It may be a second run for this post, but we believe it is worth it so that the many who have joined our community since April 2020, and the many who missed the first run, can enjoy seeing this incredible interior design project. It is, of course, the interior design project we worked on in La Maison in the French Alps.
With the help of stunning interior architecture, bespoke furniture, and a splash of Timorous Beasties fabrics and wall coverings, we helped transform a prominent building in the French Alps from a run-down residential property into a stunning ski chalet.
Built in 1749, this stunning piece of architecture, located in the main square in Montriond near Morzine, was in disrepair when its current owner acquired it. Now lovingly restored, the building is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful ski chalets in the French Alps.
The exterior has been reinstated to its former glory, with authentic shutters and copper downpipes. And the original roof, which was completely removed during the renovations, has also been reinstated.
However, the interior makes this a truly stunning residential property. The owners appointed Shep & Kyles, a firm of French interior architects with an impressive portfolio of ski chalet interiors. Their exceptional vision of maximising the interior space has resulted in an interior that is not only opulent; but also practical, durable and highly functional. Guests can enjoy the company of friends in the many spacious communal areas. Still, equally, they can enjoy privacy in the many ‘nooks and crannies’ when needing some solitude after an energetic day on the slopes.
Having previously worked with John Dick & Son, the owner was keen to have their interior designers collaborate with Shep & Kyles to help bring the designs to reality. Working closely with Kyles Garret, the John Dick & Son team identified suitable options for furniture, wallcoverings, curtains, cushions, mirrors, and soft furnishings. And, on selecting the final choices, John Dick & Son sourced, consolidated, shipped and installed much of the interior that makes La Maison such a magnificent property.
Despite communicating with a busy client and an interior architect based in France, the collaboration worked exceptionally well. Using cloud technology to share information, ideas, construction updates and shipping arrangements, John Dick & Son were able to liaise with all parties to ensure the successful delivery of the project. It was a truly superb team effort with incredibly detailed planning that brought this building and its prominence in the village square back to life.
