Our latest buying trip took us south to Birmingham and Spring Fair 2017 at the NEC.  The first thing to point out was the positive vibe coming from all the manufacturers we spoke to about how busy they had been, many even reporting record sales at this year’s exhibition.  In many ways, this reflects our own experience at John Dick & Son that more people are investing in their homes and making changes to their interiors.  It’s certainly a trend we welcome.

Perhaps as a result of this, we bought a substantial quantity of new furniture for the showroom, hence the reason we’re hoping for a good end to the Annual Sale over this weekend.  We really do need to clear as much space as possible, so we’ve made further reductions with lots of items deliberately priced to sell.

The show was a great success for us; we were able to see what’s trending and what the manufacturers are focusing on for 2017.  There is a definite emphasis on bright colours, and accent colours within the furniture. Also, a noticeable move towards ‘moveable furniture’; pieces that are functional and adjust to suit the user.  So, reclining sofas and chairs and extendable tables were very evident.  We also noted a big interest in dining furniture, perhaps a reflection of the times and the fact that more people are opting to entertain at home – another good reason to invest in your interiors!
