‘Nine recessions and a pandemic’, sounds like a good title for a movie, or perhaps a whole box set, but it’s a reality for John Dick & Son. Since the company began trading in 1954, we’ve experienced at least one recession every decade. And we are all only too aware of the current disruption to global business.
One thing that has enabled us to endure these downturns is the loyalty of our customers and their willingness to support local businesses. It’s been very reassuring to see previous customers returning to the showroom, and others discovering us for the first time.
We are an independent, family-owned business; we don’t sell UK wide on the internet, we’ve always believed in delivering personal service from our showroom. This policy has stood us in good stead during times such as these. We thank all of you who have once again supported us and other local businesses over recent months.
If you’ve visited us recently, you’ll know we have implemented all of the necessary measures. There is social distancing throughout the showroom, and if anything, it has improved the shopping experience. The showroom is large enough to enable wider aisles that provide more room to stand back and admire the designs of some exquisite furniture.
One of the other benefits of shopping with a long-established independent business is that you are dealing with people who are passionate about their trade; this is undoubtedly the case at John Dick & Son. We take pride in our knowledge of furniture, our expertise and experience in interior design, and the strong relationships we have developed with some of Europe’s leading furniture manufacturers.
Many of the manufacturers we stock are also a well-established family-run business with the same passion for craftsmanship and design excellence. Our close relationships mean we have a superb knowledge of the ranges they can offer and the many options that are available from these artisan design houses.
All in all, we are optimistic about the future; furthermore, we believe we speak for many independent businesses who are grateful that their customers are supporting the whole community by shopping locally.
