Some things don’t change

7 October 2014

As you may already know, John Dick & Son is celebrating 60 years in business this year.  As with any milestone anniversary there is a tendency to look back and consider how things started and what has changed over the years, and much has changed since 1954.

Telephone_operators,_1952Back when we started trading communication was very different, although people doing business thought it was state-of-the-art.  Imagine making a telephone call in 1954; the cumbersome black bakelite phones complete with cords would connect you to the local exchange where an operator would quite literally connect you to the desired number.  Now, we very rarely use handsets. In fact, telephones are a thing of the past, we now call them ‘mobile devices’.

One of the reasons John Dick & Son has thrived over the years is because of our continuous  investment in the business.  The advances in communication have not escaped us, that’s why we’ve recently invested in a new web site built to fully responsive standards.  So, regardless of the device you use the web site will optimise for the screen you are using.

Furthermore, you can even request a Virtual Tour where we will arrange a time to walk you through the showroom using Facetime.  Yes, you can enjoy a personal shopping experience from the comfort of your own home!

We don’t offer this to discourage you from visiting the showroom.  In fact, we encourage you to come in, enjoy a coffee and browse the showroom – there’s no substitute for actually trying out the furniture.  The virtual tour is designed to enable customers further afield to see what we have in stock and to discuss options in a very visual way from afar.

Back in 1954, the thought of this kind of technology would have been so far-fetched nobody would have believed it possible, but 60 years on it’s simply utilising technology that everyone now takes for granted.

The good news is, some things don’t change; we still have the same values we started with all these years ago – to offer the finest quality furniture with the best possible service.  However, the only cords we now deal with are those that tie back the curtains in your lounge!
